I got a 97 Mercury 150 that's firing but won't crank. It's getting gas and has spark. Do you think it's a coil or a computer or do I need to change spark plugs? I don't want to spend a lot of money. I hope you can steer me in the right direction.  I checked the water pump-it's working.  The air filter and fuel filter are clean. I tried washing the cylinders down with diesel fuel to make sure everything is clean. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Have you checked the timing, sounds like it could have sheared the key that aligns the fly wheel with the crankshaft.
