Destin Bait Report 9/10-07
Posted on Monday, September 10 @ 11:25:12 EDT by bbnet

Hey Bottom Bangers,
It certainly has been awhile since we've sent a report.I'm sorry for that. For awhile there , I thought the Gulf Of Mexico was going to boil with the lack of rain and high temps. We have really been fortunate so far this summer as far as having a good supply of bait each day , and we are still rollin' y'all ....

We will have at least two of the four boats available on the weekdays and all four on the weekends . With the exception of weather days , we will have a steady supply of cigar minnows from now until the end of the Destin Fishing Rodeo in November.
The last couple of weeks we have been catching smaller cigar minows . This was very common to the time of year the frye minows made an appearance. The good news is that this is usually our late summer , early fall run of bait. We saw a bigger spawn this year compared to the last three summers , and that was a welcome sign. Our supply should hold up good until the end of summer . If size matters to you , you'll be happy to know they have grown up . This week we have caught some beauties.
Anyone interested in purchasing frozen vacuum sealed minows , let me know. I have made available 1 and 2 lb. packages . (1 lb. packs are small minows , 2 lb. packs are med. and large minnows) and we also have "select" 6-packs (trollers) . All vacuum packed and blast frozen. For info and ordering info. contact me on my cell # available on our website , freshfishlivebait.com.
I hope everyone has a great ending to thier summers , and come see us in Destin. Thanks to all who have visited

Here are some "How to" tips that Joey refers to as "Live Bait Sense" on how to procure that livewell full of fresh bait:

-Turn on your VHF radio to ch.80 and check your volume

-Call from the pass to find out our locations

-Once you've contacted us on ch.80 and recieved instructions, please be courteous to other fisherman who are either in line to purchase bait or baitfishing for a charter

-Start your livewell long before you pull up to get bait to ensure it's working properly and that there is no foreign chemical residue from your cleanup the day before

- Know in advance the amount of bait you would like to purchase

-Idle speed from a safe distance is appreciated and those who do will be rewarded for your respect and courtesy.Remember-speeding to the live bait boats will not increase your chances of getting bait.

-Be ready when it is your turn. use your VHF to communicate with us

-Don't be afraid to ask questions about the size and condition of the bait which varies everyday due to conditions beyond our control,ie.predators, ocean swell, tide, temperature or theft

-Fishing near the bait boats will greatly decrease your chances of being able to purchase bait from us.We try to fish away from the fleet whenever possible and expect the same respect from others

-Once you have purchased your bait, idle away slowly before throttling up your boat
